Kitchen Workout 101

Alright, so no more sneek-a-peek weigh ins for me!

So, I’m just focusing on eating healthy this week.  Now, usually I find cooking rather easy and enjoyable most of the time as long as I’m not being rushed.

Well folks, yesterday I was in a HURRY!  Was running late due to this blasted cold/flu/bronchitis thing I have going on, as well as all the tedious and time consuming errands I had to do.

Ok, so the menu for last night’s dinner: A small side salad, poached salmon with fresh herbs, fresh stringbeans, and fresh turnips (or rutabaga, I think).  All I know is it’s a big, heavy, round, waxy vegetable…but I always loved them.

Anyway, here I go….home from doing the laundry, salmon prepared and ready to go……

String beans…..check…chopped and ready in the steamer (one of mankind’s greatest inventions, I think).

Now for the turnips…hmmmmm, what to do..

Peel the skin, not to hard to do, but takes a little while. Now all I have to do is dice it up, and throw it in my BIG pot (as 1 makes a lot).

Got out my good big butcher knife and here I go……..and NOTHING.  Can’t get through this thing. I keep trying but its a no-go. So I push a little harder, and I’m thinking, “ok, if I slip, I’ll be a one-handed chick and I will be sacrificing, my workouts, as I need both hands to keep my fat-ass an that bicycle seat….LOL.

So, let’s try the huge serated bread knife, surely that will work, I’ll just saw my way through this devious vegetable.  Still, I only get through maybe a 1/4″, after trying for 15 minutes.

Hands up, waving white flag,  I don’t know what the heck to do!! Yes I do! Get out the electric knife!  Great Idea Chef WF!!  After what seemed like an eternitity, still nothing.  But wait, I here this little voice calling me from under the kitchen table, though hard to hear through all the whirring of this knife.  “Mommy, check out the room”. I turn around, I’m like what room?? I search, see nothing, go back to the rock on the counter. Continue to saw away, still nothing.  Here the little voice again….Mommy, check it out” LOL “OKAY”, this time I search and I find that my little girl decided to feed her goldfish as well as dump every flake of goldfish food all over the table…GREAT :) This is going to be fun :)

Her hiness then proceeded to bring me the dustbuster, but before I could sweep some of it away, she pressed the on switch, and blew all those delicious little goldfish flakes into my mouth, eyes, hair, nose, and apparantly every crevice in the kitchen!!!!!  LOL Okay, I’ll get back to that. (That is one sweet memory I will always have).

Back to the turnip, well, I did accomplish my killer-turnip task, with the first knife I actually used, I just said a prayer and used all the strength I had and now I have arms like an Olympic Weight Lifting Champion.  So yesterday’s workout accomplished.

As for goldfish flakes..not recommended by any means. Tends to have a serious after taste that lingers for days.

Well, hope you are all enjoying your healthy meals, and keeping on track.

Oh, and tonight I just had a salad and  a microwave Healthy-Choice Dinner.

I’m done.  Tomorrow is another day.
